About Us

Craftsmanship accompanies detail and quality. It embraces comfort and assurance. It entails artistic tradition and perfect design. Craftsmanship is one of the defining qualities of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair and all of their products. Stemmed in a tradition of custom, hand built furniture that started over thirty years ago, and founded in a family tradition that started many years before that, ALB hasn't lost this value through time. It has built on it, standing out in the days of mass production. Every couch, every drape, every chair, ALB delivers customer satisfaction with custom craftsmanship.

The philosophy is simple; nothing leaves the shop that is not 100% to form. Every piece starts with the customers design and ends with an inspection by the business owners themselves. Each piece of wood is hand carved, each pillow is hand sewn, and each drape is hand stitched. With a staff of over seventy skilled and crafted workers, each ALB product is built by hand and inspected by hand.

Craftsmanship, a word that accompanies perfection.

Joe Lawrence - PresidentJoe Lawrence is President of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair (ALB). One of the design industry's most admired companies, ALB is a third generation, family-run business that continues to perfect the vanishing artistry and craftsmanship that goes into the creation of superb custom furniture and curtains. Working in concert with the field's leading interior designers, ALB boasts a prestigious list of worldwide clients and has become the largest custom furniture and curtain workroom inNew York City. The company has doubled both its number of employees and its physical workspace over the last decade.

Lawrence, who oversees the entire operation of ALB, has worked in the family business since he was a teenager. He learned every aspect of the business from his parents and assumed leadership of the company upon his father's retirement in 2000. Working with his sister Lana (the company's Vice-President), he has aggressively expanded the company's scope and continues to pursue new markets in the interior design field. His passion for his craft is also evident throughout his recent appearance on the acclaimed PBS design series, Moment of Luxury.

Over the past few years, Lawrence has begun to pursue his interest in the entertainment business with the creation of ALB Entertainment. As creator, co-producer and occasional on-screen personality, he is developing two television pilots with Great Scott! Films: Hanging with Joe (a reality show that brings a refreshingly hip sensibility to personal empowerment) and a yet-to-be-titled design show inspired by the creative challenges that ALB faces on a daily basis. Lawrence, who lives in Greenwich, CT, is also working with Great Scott! to develop a documentary based on the nationally reported uproar created by the town's decision to ban a makeshift Wiffle ball field that was constructed in a vacant lot.

Lawrence oversees the prestigious Belfair Draperies line, which was acquired in 1996 and has played a key role in the company's successful growth throughout the last decade. She has worked in the family business since he was a teenage; learned every aspect of the business from her parents; and assumed a leadership role in the company when they retired in 2000.

Working her brother Joe (the company's President), Lawrence has helped to aggressively expand the company's scope and continues to pursue new markets in the interior design field. She has been responsible for one of the company's most important new initiatives: the ALB International Fabrics features The Metro Collection from designer Juan Montoya. The idea for ALB's fabric line was first developed in 2004 when Lawrence and Montoya saw a renewed interest in the deco look--and a lack of fabrics in the marketplace to meet the demand. Lawrence's acumen for curtains and fabrics was evident throughout her appearance on the acclaimed PBS design series, Moment of Luxury.

Over the past few years, ALB has begun to pursue opportunities in the entertainment business through the creation of ALB Entertainment. To that end, Lawrence is overseeing a still-to-be-titled design show inspired by the creative challenges that ALB faces on a daily basis. The show is currently filming at ALB's workspace.
